Almanach: Of Empires and Sorcery
Almanach: Of Empires and Sorcery
THIS GAME IS IN PRE-ALPHA. HELP US MAKE IT A REALITY WITH A WISHLIST!
Welcome to Almanach: Of Empires and Sorcery, a turn-based 4X game where you take the reins of a fantasy empire and attempt to lead it to glory.
The world of Almanach is in a constant cycle of rebirth and destruction, and each game marks the beginning of a new cycle. Can you rise from the ashes of ages past and lead your people to glory? Every decision that you make can have an impact not only on the current game, but also in any subsequent ones!
Find the ruins of your old empire and your people might draw inspiration from it. Demons summoned through a gate to the Hells could decide to make their home on the surface. Proving your allegiance to the god of Chaos by cutting down the Tree of Life will mean a barren world for the next ages. In Almanach, your decisions are building the history of your world, one cycle at a time.
There are no victory conditions in Almanach! Instead, you get to choose one or more Ambitions, which will be your medium to long term objectives. Ambitions can be competitive or cooperative, and fulfilling an Ambition does not necessarily mean the other players do not get to fulfil theirs. This ensures that no matter the size of your empire in the world hierarchy, you will always have interesting and challenging goals, all the way to the end of the world.
In Almanach, every player gives their units orders simultaneously, but these orders are only resolved at the very end of the round. This fully simultaneous tactical hex-based combat system was designed from the very beginning to facilitate multiplayer interactions. No more getting punished for playing before or after someone, all players are strictly equal!
There is no tech tree, or at least not in the classical sense. If you want your empire to get good at something, you just need to do it. Want to build the greatest city in the world? Start by establishing your cities on fertile soil and develop your agricultural knowledge. Want to train the sorcerer supreme? Cast some spells! Basically every action you can take in Almanach will lead your people to develop skills in one direction or another, so your progression will always follow your own choices.
